Inspired by Sultan Ahmet Park in Istanbul and my mother’s quiet love of cats. An original linocut born from my drawings of afternoons spent in the bustling park, fused together with elements from other works to form a single playful scene.
Fresh green carries the light—cool, luminous tones that pick out the leaves and the soft shafts of sun that fall between plane trees. Each mark is a small gesture in the story—tail flicks, attentive ears, a cat’s curled sleep—bringing a sense of companionship and quiet domesticity amid the park’s hum. This linocut is a playful, intimate scene that honours both place and memory—Sultan Ahmet’s afternoon glow and my mother’s patient, watchful affection for the cats who claim it.
Handprinted using Cranfield’s relief ink on Lawrence’s Hereford paper.
